DWWSWWD OR Suck less - be a jerk!

Let's start by saying "GO AGGIES." I learned this little acronym "Do What We Say We Will Do" when I was a councilor at Fall Leadership. I got a pin with the acronym on it and would refer to it whenever I thought "yeah, I'm busy. I'm not going to get around to doing that." It would be good motivation to do the extra work, get some follow-through and make sure everyone was happy. DWWSWWD. It's good to live by.

The good people at my WORK, however, have NO IDEA what this means. If, at 10:30 in the PM someone tells you they will get a stage set by 8am (because we have swing-shift here), I think a rational person would be inclined to believe them, go home and sleep and get here at 7:30 to marvel at what a good job they did... But in actuality when I got here at 7:30 there was NO part of a 104' stage built. They told me THREE times they could get it done, that it wouldn't be an issue. But, clearly, this is not the case.

Point: Clear communication is more important than making people happy.

If they had told me "listen, we are not going to get the stage done by 8, but will have it by 9:30" I could have told the people who the stage is for and they would not RIGHT NOW be wasting man-hours for 50 people, who are now just standing.

As this illustration demonstrates, I am a nerd. As it further demonstrates, we need to find a happy medium with being happy, getting things done and SUCKING LESS (all without feeling like your head will explode). As I see it.

Don't get me wrong, I am a people person. I try to say yes if anyone asks me a question/favor and I don't like saying "we can't do this." It's hard for me, but it's something I've recently learned.

So I think everyone together should take a nice deep breath and start trying to be bigger jerks. After all, if you say no... but then it turns into a yes EVERYONE LOVES YOU. But if you say yes and it turns into a no, you SERIOUSLY SUCK. A LOT. And then everyone hates you.

(Jesus, however, said "Love Everyone, treat them kindly, too. When your heart is filled with love - others will love you." huh... that looks like a whole nother blog...)

HERE'S to being jerks!

LOL! Did you seriously make that chart? I'm all about saying no then occasionally surprising people with my awesomeness. Either that or I'll say no so often that people will just stop asking me. :)

There is nothing more infuriating than flaky people. Except that darn Amanda Dickson on KSL. Her voice makes my skin crawl.

Now let's not get confused. Jesus said "love everyone" - not "say yes to everyone and everything they want so that you yourself will be absolutely miserable." Besides, I am learning as a parent that saying yes is not equivelant to love. Sometimes the answer is no. For example, No Abby, you cannot poop in your panties for the rest of your life! Or, No Abby, you don't get to eat just cookies for dinner so all your teeth fall out by the age of 22! See, no is good AND love! :o)

Where can I get a poster-sized copy of the chart, please? With write-in areas for names, and sticky tape for photos of co-workers who by now know exactly who they are and would secretly be flattered because they are important and special and are on the chart? Two, please. Laminated.

(PS - Alexie, you can withhold cookies all you want, but her teeth are GOING to fall out between the ages of about 5 and 12 -- and will be replaced by new ones. And THOSE are the Money Teeth! :) "No is good and love" is my next Signature Tag, though.)
