I feel like I have grown-up a lot in the last year. It's horrible to say, but it's true. I mean, I still have a Lagoon season passport (and am not 15) and still evaluated my dress for church on the radius of the spinning (and it was HUGE), but overall, I feel so much more... adult (for lack of a better word) than I have in the past. And with all those changes and perspective that I have with my new-found "I might be grown-up one day" attitude, I have an issue to rant... uhhh... blog about. And I have 2 words for you: OWN IT.
If you have kissed three girls in as many weeks, you do NOT only kiss girls you date, you kiss who you feel like it -- own it.
If you "never drink" but find yourself with more-than-one coctail more-than-once a month, you probably drink sometimes -- own it.
If you "love the outdoors" but refuse to camp, you probably don't "love" the outdoors as much as you say you do -- own it.
If you have "broken-up with your boyfriend" but still call him everyday or makeout with him on a regular basis, you aren't really "out of a relationship" -- own it.
If you drink more than 64 ounces of Diet Coke in a day, you are probably an addict. Own IT!
If you are addicted to television shows, do not walk around telling people you don't watch TV ever -- just own-up to liking some TV!
If you "don't believe in fairies" but still clap until your little hands bleed when Tinkerbell dies, you probably DO believe in faries -- own it.
I've honestly decided I don't care what people do - if you're a man-whore, or a flirt, or a lush. A pimp, an addict, a child-like dreamer or a grandma-sleeper, I am SO DOWN with all of it... just as long as you admit it. Just say "yes, I understand that I go to sleep at 8 pm, which means I have the same awake-hours as a seventy-year-old." In that case, I will support you in your quest to sleep during the night and will plan dinner reservations at 5:30 instead of 7:30.
If we all own our issues, than suddenly we can change them. And I say, then we can be motivated to change them. You can look at yourself and say "hey, this is part of me. Perhaps not my favorite part, but this is who I am." And now that you own that part of who you are, you can change it (assuming you want to change it).
This post/rant goes for me too. Here's to owning our issues and, like Hurley, looking death straight in the face and saying "whatever, man."

Timms - I am a boring married lady who would rather spend her Friday nights at home with a Little Caesar's pizza and an early bedtime than attempt to go out with friends. There! I owned it! Thanks for the inspiration. And I agree with Carly.
I agree completely! And, you know, I think it comes down to honesty. At least, for me it does. I mean, if we were just honest with ourselves and with others then we would naturally "own it" without a second thought, and this world would consequentially be a much nicer place to live in. Props!
I would like to point out that everyone, including me knows the following: I am a diet coke addict (and proud of it) I do live for what's on my DVR. I don't like camping but I don't profess love for the outdoors either. I have never kissed three girls, but have three guys in a very short amount of time and afterwards thought, "man, I'm cool" I did breakup with my boyfriend and moved him into the category of best friend who I do talk to everyday but we do not make out a regular basis, so I'm going to leave that one in limbo....
Giselle,
I am so glad you wrote a blog about owning up to what we do. So many times we get caught up in making excuses and never recognizing certain things. As soon as we have the balls to recognize and "own it" then we can get better at it! Or no. But at least we are being HONEST. One BIG thing I have noticed is that people don't like to "own it" for fear of the SCANDAL! It's all about keeping up appearances. Sad.
I am all for owning up to things! In fact, I am going to own up to such and such THIS VERY NIGHT!!!
Oh, Jungle Girl!
Sarah Somtimes ok all the time while watching hannah monatnna with my 5 year old I find myself not only follwing along with the story but actually enjoying the show. If thats not owning up to somthing I don;t know what is lol :). I love reading your blog :)
Sarah, you are a fantastic writer. You are witty and entertaining... and my favorite, grammatically correct. :)
I didn't read this whole thing... but I did click on it 2 hours ago to read and now it's 1pm and I don't remember what I clicked on but decided to leave a comment anyways. Because I love you. The End.
